I still remember the first poems I was taught in elementary school; they were so delightful. Here are some of my favorite funny poems for kids. I’ve also created a few easy-to-remember poems. I hope the children enjoy them. You can create your own poem to share with everyone in the comments section!

Being Brave At Night

by Edgar Guest
The other night ’bout two o’clock, or maybe it was three,
An elephant with shining tusks came chasing after me.
His trunk was wavin’ in the air an’ spoutin’ jets of steam
An’ he was out to eat me up, but still I didn’t scream
Or let him see that I was scared—a better thought I had,
I just escaped from where I was and crawled in bed with dad.
Snowball

by Shel Silverstein
I made myself a snowball,
As perfect as could be.
I thought I’d keep it as a pet,
And let it sleep with me.
I made it some pajamas,
And a pillow for its head.
Then last night it ran away,
But first, it wet the bed.
Jack

by Jane Yolen
Jack was quite nimble,
Jack was quite quick,
Jack gave the beanstalk
A mighty big kick.
Down came the giant—
GIGANTIC fall—
Bottoms up in a crater,
Thus ending it all.
Now We Are Six
by A. A. Milne
When I was One,
I had just begun.
When I was Two,
I was nearly new.
When I was Three,
I was hardly me.
When I was Four,
I was not much more.
When I was Five,
I was just alive.
But now I am Six,
I’m as clever as clever,
So I think I’ll be six now for ever and ever.
Sick
by Shel Silverstein:
I cannot go to school today,” said little Peggy Ann McKay.
“I have the measles and the mumps, a gash, a rash and purple bumps.
My mouth is wet, my throat is dry, I’m going blind in my right eye.
My tonsils are as big as rocks, I’ve counted sixteen chicken pox.
And there’s one more—that’s seventeen, and don’t you think my face looks green?
My leg is cut, my eyes are blue, it might be instamatic flu.
I cough and sneeze and gasp and choke, I’m sure that my left leg is broke.
My hip hurts when I move my chin, my belly button’s caving in.
My back is wrenched, my ankle’s sprained, my ‘pendix pains each time it rains.
My nose is cold, my toes are numb. I have a sliver in my thumb.
My neck is stiff, my voice is weak, I hardly whisper when I speak.
My tongue is filling up my mouth, I think my hair is falling out.
My elbow’s bent, my spine ain’t straight, my temperature is one-o-eight.
My brain is shrunk, I cannot hear, there is a hole inside my ear.
I have a hangnail, and my heart is—what? What’s that? What’s that you say?
You say today is… Saturday? G’bye, I’m going out to play!
Short funny poems for kids to memorize by Lucas Elizabeth

Homework Hide and Seek
I hid my homework in the yard,
Right next to Grandpa’s old tool card.
The dog dug it up, what a find!
Now it’s full of dirt and twine!
The Bedtime Bluff
I stayed in bed with a fake, fake cold,
Hoping for a story, feeling bold.
But when Mom found my secret stash,
Of comic books, my plan did crash!
The Homework Snack
I left my homework on the floor,
My dog thought it was a tasty score.
He licked the pages, every line,
Now my homework’s gone, but he’s just fine!
My First Poem
My teacher said, “Write a poem, please!”
But all I can think of are birds and bees.
I tried to rhyme, I really did,
But all I wrote was “I’m a kid.
The Super Mom
My mom’s a superhero, bold,
Her superpowers never old.
With a hug, she melts my fears,
And with a shout, she clears my ears!
